PF Chang's China Bistro in Avenues Mall Kuwait

PF Changs China Bistro is a famous Asian bistro worldwide. It may have been a couple of times for my friends to visit and dine here, but for Ryan and I, it was our first. The reason why we suddenly decided to try this restaurant that day was actually due to our leg pain after a night of walking at the long stretch of the Avenues Mall. It was an Eid Holiday in Kuwait, the barrage of people in the mall and the long queues summon some sitting down somewhere. But still we ended up being listed on the waiting list and waited for 30 minutes before we got accommodated.

Just an overview, PF Chang's China Bistro is an Asian-themed casual restaurant with 200+ branches worldwide. It was founded by Paul Fleming and Philip Chiang in 1993 whom the name of the restaurant also comes from - PF (Paul Fleming) and Chiang (Chang's). The ownership of PF Chang's was purchased by the Centerbridge Partners in 2012. Today, PF Chang's China Bistro have established itself across the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Chile, Costa Rica and even in the Middle East. Their specialty has always been American Chinese Cuisine.

THE FIRST IMPRESSION:
We were approached immediately by a staff and were guided to our reserved table. She gave us immediately the menu booklets. We opted to sit on the booth but was declined because of the reservations. The crew was welcoming and attentive.  It also felt homey because some of the attendants were Filipinos.

FIRST IMPRESSION: GOOD [poor-good-wow]

THE RESTAURANT'S FACADE AND ATMOSPHERE:

FACADE: The facade is inviting. A huge opening with great huge 2D tree decorations that are attractive. There are also block seats to sit on. The reception counter is situated in the middle and near the opening. The restaurant is just in front of an escalator going to the second floor of the mall.

ATMOSPHERE: The Chinese themed restaurant is set well and is consistent with servicing and food. The interior design has both Chinese and American touch. Orange, yellow, black were the dominant colors of the walls while some parts of the interior are covered with weaving or wood. There is a nice see-through square wall accent adding to the Chinese and modern feel at the center of the restaurant creating division to the smoking and non-smoking area. They have ridged ceilings with lights coming through. The restaurant is dimly lit with candles on each tables to add luminescence. They have tables, booths, and even bar seating to choose from that accommodates well your mood and party.

It was noisy however because of the flock of crowd. Not too noisy that you cannot hold a conversation. Spacing of tables in the smoking area is just right.

They do not have a bathroom inside the restaurant but is situated just beside the mall's washroom.

THE TABLE SETTING

Seated in the smoking area, we got a well-polished wooden table to enjoy our dinner on. A lovely candle in a glass and condiments in bottles and saucers accentuate it. Utensils (forks, knife and chopsticks) were served in a wrapped napkin. There was no spoon though which you still need to request from the waiter. Beverage is served in a glass while still water is given in a plastic bottle with a glass. Our food is served in ceramic table wares.

THE SERVICE AND CREW

The service is fast and we did not feel rushed despite the gushing of the customers outside. The crew attending us is friendly and professional with attentiveness in our needs. The staff as well as the manager are evaluating customer satisfaction from time to time.

COMPLIMENTARY

They do not have complimentary. They give you extra rice however if you show that you are really hungry.

PF Chang's Menu
 THE MENU AND FOOD SELECTION

Menu organization starts with starters then followed with soups and salads. Their Entree (Chang's specialties) is segregated on the type of meat - chicken, beef, lamb, seafood. They also put profound description of the food in each type that makes choosing easier. All main course is served with a choice of brown or white rice. Then there is also a section for noodles and special rice to choose from.

They have sides, gluten-free, kid's menu, desserts, cocktails and beverages. Ask for their four course prix-fixe if they serve it at your branch of visit.

THE FOOD

For tonight we ordered Chang's Chicken Noodle Soup as Appetizer:

Chang's Chicken Noodle Soup is a Spicy broth with shiitake mushrooms, grape tomatoes, pin rice noodles, and cilantro. The cilantro was dominating the soup giving it the oriental taste. The noodles is a bit overcooked. Expect it not too spicy said by someone who loves spicy food :D. This order is good for 4 people.

Chang's Chicken Noodle Soup

Mongolian Beef with white rice for Entree:

Sweet, soy-glazed flank steak wok-seared with scallions and garlic.
The beef is tender with proper portion cutting. The sweetness and saltiness is just good for the taste buds. The scallions is too much on the plate for me though. The order has generous portion and is good for 2 people.

NO DESSERT and BEVERAGE was Soda and Water.

For dessert, you can check out PF Changs' fake dessert display where you can see replicas of the dessert they serve. They are tempting and you might end up ordering one from the selection. We did not also order the famous shrimp dynamite and chicken lettuce wraps tonight because we are saving it for our second visit.

THE BILL:

Bills are handed in booklets. You can choose to pay via cash, credit card or the usual method in Kuwait (KNET). Since PF Chang's is part of the Alshaya company, having an alshaya card with you gives you a good discount. For good customer service, do not forget to leave a tip!

PRICE RANGES: mid-ranged price

2 people: 10-20 Kuwaiti Dinar for a complete meal or 1,500 to 3,000 Philippine peso.

Everything we ordered cost 10kd only. :) Ryan felt happy because it was cheaper than expected.

THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE:

Rating our first experience as SATISFACTORY. The food, the ambiance, the service, the timing, the price
was 7/10. It was another tick on my bucket list here in Kuwait.
