Biryani Craze

Biryani Rice is one of the famous dishes here in Kuwait. Biryani is not an Arab food, but since expatriates especially Indians also overwhelms Kuwait, many Indian Restaurants stud this place. Block per block you can see Indian Restaurants serving this flavorful rice-based dish. Well, it became my favorite after months of gradual exposure to it. It is like I am becoming Biryaniphiliac if such word exists.

Biryani Rice is derived from the Persian word  beryā(n) which means fried or roasted. But it was believed to be first created in the kitchen of the Emperor in North India. The dish consists of variety of spices, rice (which is usually Basmati) and chunks of either chicken, mutton, fish, shrimps, egg, vegetables or even mix. I have always wanted to make my version of Biryani but the complicated process in coming up with one somewhat delay my attempt.

As of now, eating Biryani almost 3 times a month (5 times on good days) have been my extreme response to this obsession. I am actually planning to taper my Biryani obsession these coming days because truly this is the reason why I am gaining weight. Did you know that each regular serving consist 500kcal?

Anyway, I am heading to the Indian Restaurant now despite this cold weather (Let the guilt feeling sink in later). BRRRR. Come with me!

Few blocks from my flat is where the Al-Mishaal Indian Restaurant is located. :) Just beside the Maghateer Mall here in Al Farwaniya, Kuwait. This is where I plunge my face to the yummy Biryani!! hehe. As you can see it is beside a small Filipino Restaurant, but I am rooting for Biryani this time.

I have been choosing the same dishes these past 3 months. Here is my menu selection: Mutton Biryani (boneless), Chicken 65 with Rice or Chili Chicken with Rice (Everything extra SPICY). Even the waiter knows what to serve me. But still I have to state it clear. This time I chose Chili Chicken with Rice and Mutton Biryani  (boneless).

Few minutes of waiting they already servethe Free Salad. Biryani Dish is always accompanied by dahi chutney or Raita, korma, curry, a sour dish of eggplant (brinjal), boiled egg and salad. As for this store, I always get the salad, Raita, minced green chilies, curry and my chosen order.

Salad. Trust me those huge onions are sweet and tasty

Then my curry and the orders are served.

Chili Chicken with Rice

Mutton Biryani (boneless): the mutton chunks are inside. I have to dig them out!!! I am ready!!!

Here is the minced green chilies for extra spice!!

Raita: Dahi (yogurt) with sliced cucumbers. I believe it neutralizes the spicy taste. But this tastes really great as you pour it on top of your Biryani.

Well, since this is a blog, have to be a little reserved. So here's my plate. See, I am not being greedy or something :))) Turn off the camera please!!!

Ask them to serve you extra plates and eating utensils since it is part of their tradition to eat directly  on the serving dish.

Let me have my moment now okay. I really can't keep this pace. Happy Eating!!!

Don't forget to drop by at Al-Mishaal Indian Restaurant when you pass by Al Farwaniya. Of all the Biryani I have tasted, I can guarantee theirs is satisfying.
